Lancaster University, in partnership with Microsoft Research Cambridge, invites applications for a Senior Research Associate position on touchless and gesture-based interaction. You will join the School of Computing and Communications at Lancaster University but be based at Cambridge, to closely collaborate with the Medical Image Analysis and Socio-Digital Systems teams at Microsoft Research.
The Medical Image Analysis research group is developing technology to push the state of the art on automatic and semi-automatic analysis of medical images. They are working on a joint project with the Socio-Digital Systems group focussing on touchless or gesture-based interaction for surgical applications. The project is multidisciplinary involving not only computer scientists, but also social scientists and designers to develop a system for use in real world settings. Lancaster will contribute to the project with its expertise in interactive systems and recognition-based interfaces.
We invite applications from enthusiastic individuals, to serve as the main technical expert for the project and help push the boundaries of scientific knowledge. You must have a PhD or equivalent experience, in medical image analysis, computer vision or machine learning, and you must have strong programming skills in C++ or C#. The post requires a real passion for research, and a strong desire to design and develop new user interfaces based on user research.
The project offers a highly stimulating environment for research career development. You will be working with research groups at Lancaster and Microsoft Research that are internationally recognised, and you will be expected to contribute to the strong profile of the project partners through participation in the development and publication of research results.
