Research Assistant - Biomedical Engineer

This post-doc position is for 4 years starting from the 1 July 2011.

The successful candidate will work exclusively on the CODIR project at IMSaT with the Project Leader, under the direction of Prof Sir Alfred on strand 3 (Mechatronics: Control, Navigation and Powering of a Swimming Robotic Device) and strand 6 (Operating: system configuration and device testing) of the CODIR swimming micro-robot.

Research Associate, OCHRE project

Fixed term until 3 September 2012

£29,972 to £35,788 per annum

This full time postholder will be the main economic researcher on the OCHRE (Outcome and Costs of Hip Replacement Evaluation) project sponsored by Stryker Ltd. This will principally focus on building a long-term model of hip implant cost, utilising several international hip registries and leading national data-bases. Key responsibilities will include helping to: decide and prioritise key research questions; design, build and construct the economic modelling structure; test prototypes; prepare reports and present findings.

A good undergraduate degree in a numerate subject and knowledge of health technology assessments is essential.

Research Technician

The School of Cancer Sciences is one of the leading cancer research laboratories in the UK with excellent facilities and an active research atmosphere. This research technician post is to join Dr. Tennant's research team who primarily work on hypoxia signalling and metabolism in cancer. The post is initially funded for a year, with the potential to be extended upon successful grant applications.

The post holder will be a highly committed and conscientious individual capable of delivering high quality research using a variety of techniques. Previous experience in mammalian tissue culture is highly desirable.

Starting salary is normally in the range £17,421 to £18,694. 

With potential progression once in post to £21,547 a year.

Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Global Strategy

Responsible for teaching, research, curriculum development and course management, you will support the department's activities in undergraduate and postgraduate strategic management education. You will need to demonstrate innovative approaches to teaching and research, ensuring that students engage with their education and emerge with skills to enhance their employability. Through your research activities, you will contribute to the department's applied research portfolio including preparing bids, developing external networks and supervising research students. You will also be actively involved in promoting the department and the University in the UK and overseas. As Senior Lecturer you will take responsibility for chairing committees and working groups including the mentoring of other staff.

You will need a Masters degree (or professional equivalent) in a relevant management focused subject, and recent teaching experience. Knowledge of SAP would be useful. Your growing research portfolio and your ability to network and develop partnerships with external organisations will enhance the Department's profile. For the Senior Lecturer post preference will be given to candidates holding PhDs /close to completion or with a record of publications in the relevant field.
