THIS IS AN EPA (EXEMPT FROM STATE PERSONNEL ACT) POSITION.
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY (NCCU) IS A COMPREHENSIVE UNIVERSITY
LOCATED IN THE RESEARCH TRIANGLE REGION OF THE STATE. THE UNIVERSITY
OFFERS PROGRAMS AT THE UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE, AND PROFESSIONALLEVEL
AND HAS AN ENROLLMENT OF OVER 8,500 STUDENTS. OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL
YEARS,THE UNIVERSITY EXPECTS TO ENHANCE THE MARKETABILITYOF ITS
MASTER'S DEGREE OFFERINGS AND TO ESTABLISH A NUMBER OF DOCTORAL
PROGRAMS. NCCU IS ONE OF SIXTEEN CONSTITUENT INSTITUTIONS OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SYSTEM. HISTORICALLY, IT IS THE NATION'S
FIRST PUBLIC LIBERAL ARTS INSTITUTION FOUNDED FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS
AND IS CURRENTLY SERVING VERY DIVERSE STUDENT AND FACULTY
POPULATIONS. NCCU INVITES APPLICATIONS AND NOMINATIONS FOR THE
POSITION OF PROFESSOR WITH APPOINTMENT AS ASSOCIATE DEAN. THE
PROFESSOR REPORTS DIRECTLY TO AND ASSISTS THE SLIS DEAN IN
FACILITATING ACCREDITATION, ESTABLISHING AND COORDINATING PROGRAMS
AND ACTIVITIES, AND ADVANCING LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE AT
NCCU AND BEYOND. THE SLIS HAS SEVERAL MAJOR INITIATIVES AND
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THESE AREAS: DIVERSITY, DIGITIZATION,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(CONT) INTERNATIONAL LIBRARIANSHIP, HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARIANSHIP,
AND HEALTH INFORMATICS. THE SLIS OFFERS THE MLS,MIS AND TWO JOINT
DEGREE PROGRAMS, THE JD/MLS (WITH THE SCHOOL OF LAW).AND THE MIS/MBA
(WITH THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS). THE PROFESSOR IS EXPECTED TO REPRESENT
THE INTERESTS OF THE SLIS AND TO WORK COOPERATIVELY AND
COLLABORATIVELY WITH THE DEAN, THE CHANCELLOR, VICE CHANCELLORS,
OTHER DEANS, DIRECTORS, DEPARTMENT CHAIRS, FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS,
ALUMNI AND CORPORATE LEADERS TO PROMOTE THE VISIBILITY AND EXPANSION
OF PROGRAMS, INCLUDING GRANT APPLICATIONS. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
WILL BE REQUIRED TO TEACH AT LEAST ONE COURSE (PREFERABLY RESEARCH)
EACH SEMESTER AND TO CARRY OUT AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF RESEARCH,
PUBLISHING, AND GRANTS ACTIVITY. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THE
ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO PROVIDE DYNAMIC ACADEMIC
LEADERSHIP, MOBILIZE EXCELLENCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY WITHIN THE FACULTY
AND STUDENTS TOWARD ACHIEVING THE NCCU STRATEGIC PLAN IN GENERAL AND
THE SLIS STRATEGIC PLAN IN PARTICULAR. THE CANDIDATEWILL REPRESENT THE
SLIS AT COMMUNITY AND CAMPUS EVENTS, INMEETING WITH OTHER
INSTITUTIONS, AND HELP COORDINATE FACULTY AND UNIVERSITY ACTIVITIES.
Training and Experience Requirements
(CONT) THE CANDIDATE WILL ASSIST IN MANAGING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
OPERATIONAL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AND IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DEAN
TO MAKE NECESSARY MODIFICATIONS BASED ON ANALYSES OF OPERATIONS,
DEMOGRAPHICS, AND OTHER RESEARCH INFORMATION. IN ADDITION, S/HE WILL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTING IN ADMINISTERING THE SCHOOL'S STUDENT SUPPORT
SERVICES TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL STUDENT OUTCOMES, SUCH AS RETENTION,
GRADUATION, AND PLACEMENT. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL ALSO ASSIST
IN SCHEDULING COURSES FOR SLIS.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE ADVANCED ADMINISTRATIVE, LEADERSHIP, AND
MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE AND AN EARNED DOCTORATE AND ACADEMIC RECORD
TO SUBSTANTIATE APPOINTMENT TO SENIOR FACULTY RANK
(HAVE EARNED TENURE) IN THE SCHOOL OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCES
AS WELL AS EXPERIENCE IN STUDENT DEVELOPMENT (RECRUITMENT, ASSESSMENT,
AND MENTORING PLACEMENT).
