As part of Queen Mary, University of London's strategic investment in Science and Engineering, applications are invited from scholars of international distinction for a Professorial appointment in the broad area of Circuits and Systems in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS).
Candidates should have proven research leadership in theoretical foundations and architectures, as well as design and tools, and applications such as circuits and systems implementations of algorithms for signal and information processing. A strong international profile and an outstanding record of publications that have an impact in the field are also required.
The postholder will be expected to establish a research group, which will involve the appointment of new lecturers, and there will be opportunities for bridging research with our established strengths in areas such as Antennas and Program Verification & Analysis.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to the development of the School's research strategy, to be active in attracting research funding and to play a full role in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. A proven ability to provide wider School leadership is also essential.
The School of EECS is an exciting and dynamic environment with a research portfolio of £36m, with £13m in new grants announced in 2009/10 equating to about 45% of the figure for the whole of Science and Engineering at QMUL. In the RAE2008, 75% of the School's Computer Science submitted staff were rated 3* or 4*, with 50% for the corresponding Electronic Engineering submitted staff. The School has 60 research active academic staff, about 80 post doctoral researchers and about 200 PhD students, with 8 School members holding prestigious research fellowships.
The post is full time and permanent, starting in September 2011. Salary will be by negotiation within the Professorial range. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
