Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Networks



As part of the wider, on-going strategic investment by Queen Mary, University of London, the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science is looking to recruit Lecturers/Senior Lecturers within the teaching and research area of Networks.


Applicants should be knowledgeable in Wireless Networks, Network Theory or Internet of Things. Research areas of interest are: link layer and network layer protocols and architectures; radio resource management; network performance; OFDMA networks; relay and mesh networks; cognitive radio; CoMP; Semantic Web for Mobile; queuing theory; network coding; network modelling; information theory; mathematical techniques for network optimisation; utilisation, economics and management; web science; pervasive/ubiquitous computing; sensor and ad hoc networks; smart networks.


Applicants should have demonstrable experience in the relevant research area with an appropriate publication record and should have experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching appropriate to the level of the appointment.


All candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach at any level within the area of expertise and across a range of subjects at a more introductory level, and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment in the process of teaching. Some overseas teaching may be required as part of the School's wide-ranging programmes of study.


The School of EECS is an exciting and dynamic environment with a research portfolio of £36m, with £13m in new grants announced in 2009/10 equating to about 45% of the figure for the whole of Science and Engineering at QMUL.  In the RAE2008, 75% of the School's Computer Science submitted staff were rated 3* or 4*, with 50% for the corresponding Electronic Engineering submitted staff. The School has 60 research active academic staff, about 80 post doctoral researchers and about 200 PhD students, with 8 School members holding prestigious research fellowships.


The posts are full time and permanent, starting in September 2011. Starting salary will be in the range of £37,669-£46,938 for Lecturers and £49,619-£55,479 for Senior Lecturers. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.


Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
